Little Acts of Love and Bodden Construction Partner to Serve Tuckerton Veteran

A Navy/National Guard veteran and his wife were recently surprised when Little Acts of Love received a special donation from Bodden Construction. David and Betty Oswald had moved back to the area to be close to family and had found the perfect place. Cleaning out the clutter and making repairs was only the beginning of making this new place their home. As David began to struggle with mobility, Betty reached out to Little Acts of Love asking for help with a ramp.

Working with community and church ministries, Little Acts of Love worked with a team of volunteers to install a ramp so David would be able to exit their home safely. However, repairs were needed in their bathrooms especially to make one accessible for David’s changing needs.

“We knew this was something that required a skilled team because of the extent of the repairs needed to ensure the small areas would no longer be a barrier.” Alice Moyer of Little Acts of Love stated that the bathrooms had some special issues that needed to be corrected beyond the skills of her typical volunteers. When Bodden Construction reached out to discuss how they might partner with them to help someone, this situation seemed to be the perfect fit. The Bodden Construction family and their suppliers remodeled the bathrooms including new flooring, a bathtub, shower surrounds, fixtures, and toilets. With the help of their suppliers – Weinstein Supply and Creative Flooring – who donated materials for this project, Bodden Construction completed the projects in three days.

“I thought I was dreaming when I first walked into my bathroom,” said Betty. “It is all beautiful. The crew was kind, friendly, and professional. My husband and I are forever grateful.”

Little Acts of Love is a local non-profit that provides home repairs to eligible elderly, low-income, disabled, and veteran homeowners of the Greater Reading Community.  Local service groups and church mission teams provide the hands to address the needed repairs and materials are provided through grants and donations at no cost to the homeowner. All work is matched to the abilities of the team leaders.  Youth groups can also participate in a time of  service with their leaders.
